About Our Practice

Dr. Loraine Glaser-Zakem
Director, Medical Marijuana Health Consultants
I am a native of Cincinnati and graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1985. I am board certified in Internal Medicine and was in private practice for 5 years before spending the subsequent 23 years in various Emergency Departments throughout the Tri-State area. I also staffed two Urgent Care centers until this past year, which I chose to leave due to unreasonable demands of physicians to see too many patients per hour. I do not believe that to be in the patient's best interest.
My personal interest in MMJ (medical marijuana) began with a family member who was able to break a 20-year addiction to an opiod by using medical marijuana products. I have found that there have been many more clinical studies with good methodology in the past five to ten years by reputable American medical centers such as the University of Michigan (medical cannabis has been legal for more than ten years in Michigan), University of San Diego, as well as many international studies. Most of the information I have learned was not taught in medical school and continues to be unfortunately ignored by many practicing physicians. Good scientific evidence is readily available. One of my goals in this practice, in addition to patient education, will be to participate in MMJ clinical research trials.
After extensive research into the uses of MMJ, I decided to dedicate my current practice to exclusively provide evaluations to those patients who may benefit from its therapeutic effects. One of my primary goals in this practice is to educate both patients and other physicians regarding the science and recent research in the rapidly changing MMJ field.
My focus is on bettering patients' lives through reduction of pain and anxiety associated with many medical conditions. There are also significant therapeutic neuroprotective qualities of MMJ which benefit patients with neuromuscular disorders such as Alzheimer's, MS, Parkinsonism, traumatic brain injury, and ALS among others. Israeli studies have shown significant improvement for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, such as Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, MMJ is an excellent alternate to NSAIDs or opioids for many types of pain, both acute and chronic. Last but not least, MMJ has been shown to have anti-tumor effects in animal studies. I will tailor my recommendations to each patient's individual qualifying medical condition.
